The orchestration “plays itself” with challenging and extensive parts.

Instrumentation:

– Gyil (solo) 

– Woodwinds (1 part each): (Flute, Piccolo, Oboe | 2  Clarinet (Bb) | Bassoon)

– Brass: (2 Horn (F) | 2 Trumpet (Bb) | 2 Trombone | Tuba)

– Stings: (Violin (2 parts) | Viola | Cello | Double Bass |)

– Percussion (2 players): Concert Bass Drum | Snare Drum | Cowbell | Sus. Cymbal | Gong | Conga |)

 

** Orchestrated by Andrew Beall, this piece also has a wind ensemble arrangement and string quartet version, both with solo gyil.

 

The Mandara Music Gyil Transcription Series features some of the best-known pieces for this instrument.
