Concerti for Orchestra
Ghana, Burkina Faso, and Cote D’Ivoire have made a substantial contribution to the roots of American popular music. Now, in the continuing spirit of cross-culture between West Africa and the Americas, Mandara music presents eight concerto movements taken from the traditional music of one of the region’s traditional treasures – the gyil – orchestrated for full symphony orchestra, chamber orchestra, string orchestra, and wind ensemble. (Including one concerto for marimba transcribed from the gyil repertoire of Kakraba Lobi.)
The levels are as follows:
- Level 1: easier – good first pieces in this style,
- Level 2: intermediate,
- Level 3: challenging and in some cases lengthy.
